Mag. Clemens Wieser

Clemens Wieser joined the Caledonian Academy team in August 2009 as a PhD student. Clemens obtained his Magister rer. nat. degree in Geography (major) and Philosophy, Pedagogy and Psychology (minors) at the University of Vienna in December 2008. His PhD project investigates the role of social networks in enhancing transition from education to the workplace. The challenge is to reconstruct how social networks influence and collective comprehension interacts with the learning individual and how these events enhance transition from education to the workplace. Clemens’s latest thinking can be found on the Learning through Networks Blog.
Clemens’s further research interests are in understanding the intersection of imparting and acquisition of information. He has experience in qualitative research on teaching and didactics and worked with grounded theory approaches and hermeneutical text and data analysis. Clemens is also interested in Critical Theory (Frankfurt school of thought) and Philosophy of Education.
Before joining the Academy, he worked at the University of Vienna. Clemens was a student representative and involved in a range of developmental boards. He also participated in the development of teacher training curricula and in the implementation of the Bologna process in teacher education. As a tutor to Prof. Christian Vielhaber, chair of didactics of geography and teacher training at the Department of Geography and Regional Research, Clemens provided support for student teachers and assisted in initiating a set of new courses in didactics and in the design of research projects. He was also employed as a research assistant at the Department of Philosophy, assisting in the development of the Centre of Didactics of Philosophy.
