4 September, University of Edinburgh , Main Library
Presenters: Prof. Dr. Betty Collis, Emeritus Professor, University of Twente, The Netherlands and Honorary Professor, Caledonian Academy, Glasgow Caledonian University; Dr. Peter Sloep, Open University, The Netherlands
The two contributors are internationally renowned experts on technology-supported learning. Betty Collis will outline approaches to integration of formal and informal learning through course design. She will share examples from both higher education and corporate learning sectors. She will highlight opportunities and issues in the organisational and pedagogical aspects of courses that integrate formal and informal learning, particularly relating to scalability, sustainability and assessment. Peter Sloep will explore peer-tutoring for informal learning in ad hoc, transient communities. Particularly, he will focus on the incentive structures behind peer tutoring. To this end, he will compare peer-tutoring communities with open source development communities.
